Frequently Asked Questions

Does Affirm perform a credit check? Will it impact my credit score?

Affirm performs a soft credit check when you apply, which doesn't impact your credit score. If you're approved and choose to buy with Affirm, your loan and payments may affect your credit score. Paying on time helps build a positive credit history.

Why was I denied financing?

We don't have any information about a customer's financing decision. Affirm tries to offer all credit-worthy applicants financing but isn't able to in every case. Affirm will email you with details about the decision, which is final.

Why was I asked to verify my identity?

If Affirm has difficulty confirming your identity, you may need to provide more information. This can include verifying your address or submitting a photo of your ID. These steps help Affirm prevent fraud and make accurate credit decisions.

Why was I asked about my income?

Affirm may need additional information about your finances and ability to repay in order to make a credit decision. Sharing your income gives Affirm more insight into your repayment ability.

Why was I asked for a down payment?

Affirm isn't always able to offer credit for the full amount requested. In those cases, Affirm asks for a down payment with a debit card for the remainder of the purchase. The down payment amount can't be changed and must be made before the loan offer expires.

Will I see how much interest I'll pay before I accept the loan?

Yes. You'll see the total interest on the terms page and again on the loan confirmation page. If you pay off your loan early, you'll receive a rebate for any interest that hasn't yet accrued.
